Vehicle Safety

As most residents are aware, we have had issues with vehicles traveling at excessive speeds around the community.

We have invited a representative from the Danbury Police Department to attend our Annual Meeting on July 28th to help us better understand what the city can and cannot do to help us better enforce speed limits and traffic sign compliance within our private community.

In the meantime, we will be installing a few more speed bumps in areas where speeding has been historically problematic; these additional speed bumps will be installed this week with the appropriate signage.

The safety of our community members has always been the Board’s main priority and looking to implement as many realistic speed deterrent tools that will significantly reduce any risks of vehicle and pedestrian accidents.  To this end, we also request that walkers be sure to move to the side of the road to allow cars to safely pass.

Lake Management:

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) recently conducted a fish study of our lake; the results were summarized at a very high level and did not provide a definitive view of our current fish population.   Our overall rating was a “B” when compared to other lakes of similar size and age within the State. Their recommendation was to implement a “Catch and Release” rule that will allow for certain fish species to grow both in size and numbers.  Accordingly, we will be putting up “Catch and Release” signs at both beaches and at the dam this week. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in adhering to this new rule.

In addition, an Aquatic study is scheduled for next week to better understand our lake vegetation.  That resulting data, along with ~40 years of lake testing results, will be used to create a sustainable lake management program.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy July 4th Holiday.
