The Basics

  • Both household garbage and recyclables are picked up on Monday mornings year-round.
  • Recyclables should be placed curbside in clear plastic bags or in blue containers.  For more details on how to properly recycle, click here.
  • Large household items like furniture and appliances can also be left curbside in front of your house after 4 pm on Sundays.

The Dumpster

The dumpster behind the Community House is for use by all residents for household garbage only!  Absolutely no recycling, furniture, appliances or construction materials should be left at or in the dumpster.  Contractors doing work at your home are NOT permitted to use the dumpster. Please be advised that there is a surveillance system near the dumpster which allows the Board to identify violators.  Individuals who use the dumpster for purposes other than household garbage will be contacted and fined by the Board.

Yard Clippings & Leaves

Yard clippings and leaves can be left at the curb in front of your property, where they will be picked up by our maintenance staff.   See Leaf Collection / Snow Removal for more details.

The Lake Waubeeka Association Rules State:

Household Garbage and Recycling

  1. Household garbage (as defined by the Danbury Health Department) and single-stream recyclables will be collected every Monday.  Please place your bins/bags at your curbside after 4 pm Sunday or early Monday morning.
  2. Single stream recycling includes glass, cans, plastic, paper and cardboard.  Large cardboard that does not fit in your trash container or in clear /blue plastic recycling bags should be broken down, stacked and tied neatly and put out with your curbside garbage.
  3. All household garbage must be properly sealed and secured against wildlife.  Household garbage, recyclables and other refuse may not be left outside homes from Monday evening through 4 pm Sunday.
  4. Large furniture items, appliances, electronics will continue to be picked up by LWA Maintenance at no charge.  Pickups will continue to be on Monday morning only and should be placed curbside after 4 pm Sunday. NOTE: If the total size of your large items exceeds 8 x 12 feet, you are responsible for its disposal.
  5. Residents may also use the dumpster behind the Community House for household garbage but not for recyclables, construction materials or discarded furniture.
  6. Hazardous Materials such as paint, pesticides must NEVER be placed in household garbage/recycle bins or in the dumpster.  For hazardous materials disposal, please refer to the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (http://hrra.org/household-hazardous-waste).
  7. Contractor construction materials and debris must be removed from LWA by the contractor and will not be picked up.

Community Dumpster

  1. The dumpster behind the Community House is for household garbage/trash ONLY.  Recyclables, furniture, appliances, water heaters, mattresses, carpet or other large items, or other durable goods made of wood, metal, plastic, must NOT be placed inside or left outside of the dumpster.
  2. Pallets and construction debris may NOT be placed inside or left outside the dumpster.  Contractors are NOT permitted to use the CH dumpster.
  3. Homeowners are personally responsible for disposing of “do it yourself” as well as contractor construction or remodeling debris.

Yard Debris

  1. Grass clippings must be in a bucket for pickup.
  2. Brush must be cut into nothing greater than 4-foot lengths.
  3. Do not put piles on top of road drainage grates or catch basins.
  4. Brush and leaf piles must be separated.
  5. Piles need to be on road surface not on curb or property.
  6. Material bundled with twine is acceptable.
  7. If you choose to bag your organic material (twigs, brush, etc.) you must use paper, not plastic.
  8. Any “yard debris” that does not comply with the above list will NOT be picked up and the homeowner will be given a notice of violation. Upon a 2nd notice, the homeowner will be called to a hearing and a fine will be determined.
