On Saturday night, August 22 the Community House was transformed into an art gallery, featuring the works of eighteen Waubeeka artists, and a coffeehouse with talent that left everyone cheering.
The first hour was devoted to viewing paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, ceramics and fiber works by an array of talented artists while listening to the jazz selections of Jonathan Kantor on reeds and Joe Alterman on piano. A host of wonderful volunteers provided baked goods and wine to accompany the broad selection of refreshments throughout the evening. An exhibit of “selfies” was on display for all to enjoy.
Ten different acts followed, ranging from vocal solos by some of our youngest Waubeekans to jazz, folk, blues, and classical music by an assortment of soloists, duos, and trios. The evening wouldn’t be complete without our very own Dora Bardach performing a lyrical dance to the recitation of one of her poems. The program moved along flawlessly thanks to the introductions by Doris Wallace.
The appreciative audience, of over 200, were seated at candlelit tables. Remarks could be heard throughout the hall of what top-notch talent made up the program.
The evening would not be complete without Lake Waubeeka’s very own house band, Nikki and the Kicks who kept the place rocking with music and dancing for the final hour.
The artwork was again on display Sunday morning for those wanting a better look, or for those who couldn’t attend. This year’s coffeehouse and art show was the biggest and best so far- advising all to save the date for next year’s August event as soon as it becomes available.
Thank you to the many volunteers who exhibited, performed, baked, set-up and cleaned-up the venue, and came out to support and enjoy the evening together.
