If you’re a true Waubeekan, then you know the know the only way to celebrate our 242nd birthday is with neighbors and friends on the Paul Street Beach on Sunday July 1, 2018

Food at 2 pm, Band starts at 3 pm

Bad weather: Will be at the Community House, band will start at 4 pm, food will be ready at the same time.

That’s right, we have the band Tangled Vine ( not to be confused with Wild Grape Vines)…

We have the food and we don’t quite have that kind of drink…. But you know you can and will bring your own beverages. ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS BOTTLES OR CONTAINERS OF ANY KIND PERMITTED AT THE BEACH, IN THE PARKING LOT, OR IN ANY GARBAGE OR RECYCLING CONTAINER !!!

We will ask that folks bring salads, veggie trays ( with dips) and other cold food items (suggestions welcome),Chile (veggie or carne), or another idea, washed and cut veggies to cook on the grill, asparagus, peppers, zuchinni, squash. Other folks feel free to bring fruit platters or homemade desserts of your choice ( homemade ALWAYS appreciated over store bought)

The grill will be cranking out beef burgers, turkey burgers, veggies burgers, kosher hot dogs, chicken, corn on the cob, and maybe a surprise or two.

Every year we do this party we have so many great Waubeekans to help out, making it one of the best parties of the year. Just like last year, and the year before that, we will need lots of people to help out to make it a success. After all, that’s how our community was built—by VOLUNTEERS……..So we need everyone to lend a hand—most times it will be seeing that trash and recycling stay separated, helping pass watermelon to the beach crowd, icing the cooler or flipping a burger. Others may help checking vehicle stickers. We must keep the beach parking lot in some semblance of sanity. NO PARKING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF PAUL STREET GOINH DOWN THE HILL TO THE BEACH! This is going to be extremely important because a lane must be kept open at all times for emergency vehicles.

ANY CAR WITHOUT A LWA STICKER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARK AT THE BEACH, THEY CAN ONLY GO DOWN TO DROP/OFF OR PICKUP. IF YOU PARK BEHIND ANOTHER CAR , LEAVE YOUR CELL NUMBER VISIBLE ON YOU R WINDSHIELD, SO WE CAN NOTIFY IF YOUR CAR NEEDS TO BE MOVED.

Volunteers are needed. Contact Joel Berkowitz through nextdoor.

The grill staff lauded year after year for cranky personalities. Delicious food will remain intact with Avi, Susie, yours truly manning….. and John Judd as the beer wench. Other folks can set up buffet tables, stock the beverage cooler, prep buffet items, police the beach for trash. We will need food runners to bring hot and tasty food items from the grill to the buffet, and from the walk in cooler to the grill , buffet as well as keep the beverages stocked in our big green beverage cooler. Food runners please wear appropriate footwear.

Dessert is always a red, white, and blue extravaganza. Homemade backed goods, such as brownies, cookies , cold sliced watermelon will be cut and passed on the beach. We also need an adult volunteer to hand out ice cream after picnic dinner—(that could be you, hint, hint.)

Folks bringing guests other than immediate family, please listen up:

bringing food is great, but helping pay for grilled items, the band, beverages is something we really need your help with. Putting $10 cash in our jar on the buffet line would help us add to our budget for future parties. We will have a bucket so you can throw that ten spot at us while we are building your custom burger. Please note that all money received will be contributed to the entertainment budget as well.

And then there is clean up. Please let Joel, Jon or Heidi know if you can help. Especially at the end of the day around 7-8 pm when things need to be brought back to the community house so we have what we need for the next event. If you have questions, please leave Joel a message on the Lake Waubeeka facebook page or nextdoor. See you at the beach on Sunday July 1 !!
